"We can't choose to vanish the dark, but we can choose to kindle the light"
Viktor Frankl
Welcome
My name is Laura. I provide counselling and psychotherapy in Leeds, both in person and online.
I'm passionate about the work that I do, and believe deeply in the positive impact therapy can have on quality of life.
After working for a number of years with young people with additional needs, including ADHD and autism, I trained for three years to earn a Postgraduate Certificate and a Master of Arts degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I’m also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I adhere to their high standards and am committed to ethical, professional, and compassionate practice.
I undertake my private practice as part of Arbour Counselling and Psychotherapy, a small collective of therapists. In addition to this work I provide therapy to people within the criminal justice system. In both environments I support individuals with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, with particular experience of working with trauma and abuse, having a deep understanding how such issues can impact daily life and relationships.

Why Therapy?
People seek therapy for many reasons, from working through trauma, to managing anxiety or depression, processing life transitions, or simply wanting greater self-awareness and personal growth.
Working with a qualified therapist provides a space where you are truly heard and understood. Where you can be your authentic self, or indeed discover who and what that is. Within the security of this therapeutic relationship, you are free to explore what is going on for you, with empathy, and without judgement. Through this process, you have the opportunity to gain a new or deeper understanding of yourself, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful change in your life.
Life has a way of presenting us with unexpected and undeserved challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Therapy can help you make sense of it all, and move forward.
However, beginning therapy can feel daunting, particularly finding the right therapist. This is why I offer a free consultation to discuss where you are, and how we might work together.
It takes real guts to be vulnerable and seek help, but this is the first step.
Please feel free to contact me for further information or to arrange an appointment.
My Approach
"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become"
Carl Jung

In truth, therapy can be hard. That doesn’t mean it has to be clinical.
My approach is relational. This means that connection is at the heart of our work. I meet you where you are, to find light in the dark.
Influenced by the work of Jung and Yalom, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is where change and growth happens. As an integrative therapist, I am able to draw on various models and theories, to work with you as an individual, rather than adopting a one size fits all approach. My aim is to work with you to create a trusting and authentic, collaborative relationship, in which we can unpick what is going on for you.
Together, and at your pace, we can explore how your past is impacting your present, discuss unresolved issues, and understand patterns of behaviour, to provide insight into the challenges you are facing.
Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply unsure about your direction, we can work together to understand what you need, and move toward meaningful change.
Therapy is not always easy, but with work, and the right therapist, it can be transformative.
